Synopsis This session aims to promote S&T research cooperation between Korea Government-funded Research Institutes (GRIs) under NST and Europe by introducing two innovative R&D platforms – KOSEN and KIST Europe – as well as by sharing joint research ideas. Part I. Introduction of GRIs’ R&D Platforms Part I introduces how KOSEN and KIST Europe have facilitated Korea-Europe R&D collaboration. By providing physical and virtual platforms, KOSEN and KIST Europe have played an important role in R&D collaboration between the two continents. KOSEN (Korean Scientists and Engineers' Network), established in 2007 by KISTI, is a cyber human networking for Korean scientists working around the world. Not only does it connect people all over the world, but also helps researchers find their research partners by matching R&D needs. The KIST Europe is a research institute with Korean roots, founded in 1996 in Saarbrücken. As an open innovation hub for R&D collaboration and industrial activities, it has contributed to encouraging joint R&D activities between Korea and Europe. In 2018, it launched a Global Test-bed platform, which could be used as a test-bed to fulfill some feasibility test or research. Part II. KGRIs-Europe R&D Matchmaking Part II focuses on information exchanges to facilitate R&D collaboration between KGRIs and Europe. Five research institutes will explain their research projects in which researchers in Europe can participate. Participants can ask the details of the projects such as eligibility, funding scheme, etc.
